Apprentice Camp 2024

From August 5th to 9th, 2024, 24 apprentices and 5 vocational and practical trainers from IGP, together with 23 apprentices from Fust AG Carpentry and their 2 vocational trainers, spent five sunny and hot days in Ticino. The focus of the camp was on building outdoor furniture and getting to know each other.

On Monday, after the lunch break at the Mesocco Ruins, the group continued to the carpentry training center in Gordola, where the apprentices were introduced to the project, including safety topics and work groups. The group work started immediately, and the first kits were assembled. After arriving at the warehouses in Losone, the team enjoyed their first dinner, prepared by our cook Pamina: a spaghetti feast with a selection of salads. The evening concluded with a workshop on "Nutrition in Apprenticeships" and an introduction to IGP values.

Tuesday was all about carpentry: edging, sanding, drilling, and screwing - the progress was already noticeable. Due to the extremely hot weather, a stop at the swimming pool was planned before the kitchen spoiled everyone with delicious fajitas. The day ended with a game night, organized by three Fust apprentices and two IGP apprentices. The program included floorball, soccer, darts, Kubb, and volleyball.

On Wednesday, the workday was interrupted by a go-karting session. Both the women's and men's teams had a great time, showing plenty of ambition and enthusiasm as they raced around the corners with speed and skill. After this varied lunch break, everyone returned to the training center, where work on the project continued in the afternoon. After dinner at the warehouse, the participants split into two groups: one group watched the FCSG match, while the other explored the charming town of Ascona.

Thursday and Friday focused on finishing and packing the furniture. After a pizza lunch on Thursday, the group enjoyed a barbecue in the evening and ended the day by the Maggia River. There was volleyball, swimming, a campfire, and marshmallow roasting. On Friday, the warehouses were cleaned, and the finished furniture was loaded onto the truck.

This year's apprentice camp was a great success! Everyone involved worked hard and showed great commitment. They used the opportunity to get to know each other better, and the new apprentices found the experience an easier introduction to the working world. A big thank you to everyone involved!
