«In a Racing Kart, I Reach my Limits.»
Portrait of Roman Rüegg
Whether on four hooves, on wheels, or at work—Roman Rüegg loves movement and variety. A trained mechanic, he served as a technical supplier for IGP for many years before eventually becoming part of the company himself. Today, he brings his inventive spirit to bear here when it comes to making work processes safer and more efficient. In his free time, he finds variety on horseback, on his property as a hobby farmer, and on the racetrack, where he seeks an adrenaline rush karting with his son.
A typical workday? Not for Roman Rüegg. New tasks await him every day, and that’s exactly what makes it so appealing to him. Barely had he started at IGP when he developed a tipping device that makes cleaning the waste bins easier while also eliminating an accident risk. Projects like this, which improve efficiency, ergonomics, and safety, regularly spark his ambition.
Always Open to New Ideas
Roman Rüegg’s professional career has been shaped by technology and continuous professional development. After completing his apprenticeship as a mechanic, he gained his first professional experience before moving to a large international corporation, where he took on responsibilities in production management. Later, as head of mechanical engineering, he served for many years as one of IGP’s suppliers for technical solutions and designs. The technical challenges in process engineering ultimately motivated him to apply for a position and join the company.
When he compares his early days at IGP with today, one thing stands out to him above all else: the trust placed in him has grown. At the same time, he is impressed by the company’s courage to embrace change. He, too, remains open to change. When asked about his secret, he replies: “Curiosity and a good dose of courage.” For him, change is not an obstacle but an opportunity—as long as you stay curious and are willing to take risks.
Between Country Life and the Kart Track
Roman has a deep connection to country life. Even at 14, his dream job was to be a farmer. Today, he lives out that dream on a smaller scale: on his own property, where he can indulge his passion for farming as a hobby. No wonder he’s even driven a tractor to work.
Equestrian sports have also been a part of his life for many years. Riding horses in nature allows him to unwind and let his mind wander—a valuable balance to everyday life. These moments bring him peace and serenity.
On the other hand, go-kart racing with his son Diego provides the thrill. It’s all about speed and precision—pure adrenaline. “In the go-kart, I push myself to my limits and the adrenaline rushes through my body,” he says, describing the fascination.
A Motto for Life
Roman is convinced that curiosity and courage are the most important ingredients—both in his professional and personal life. “Nothing ventured, nothing gained” has long been his motto. It fits his career and lifestyle: he’s always ready to try something new, whether it’s on technical projects, on horseback, or on the go-kart track.
Any special advice for his younger self? He doesn’t have any ready. But his attitude toward life makes it clear: openness, courage, and a love of movement are the keys for him.
