First steps in the world of work
About five months ago, eleven apprentices in six different apprenticeships started their training at IGP Switzerland. Among them are three business administrators, two laboratory technicians, a production mechanic, three plant operators, a logistics specialist and a maintenance specialist. In this interview, they tell us how they perceived the first few months, what motivates them every day and what skills they have already improved.
Lara (businesswoman), what motivates you to come to work every day?
What motivates me most is the pleasant working atmosphere. I also find it motivating that I can learn new things every day and gain valuable experience.
What about you, Severin (business maintenance specialist)?
I am also motivated by the good working atmosphere. We get along great as a team, and working together is fun – that's how you enjoy coming to work.
Donisa (businesswoman), has there been a highlight since the start of your apprenticeship?
A special highlight for me was the apprentice camp, which took place one week before my first official day at work. There I was able to meet many new people and get in the mood for the training. That really made it easier for me to start my career. Another nice moment was when I was allowed to work independently on a sample order in the export department for the first time. This showed me that I am trusted and that I can take on responsibility at an early age.
And what has been your highlight so far Nicolas (plant operator)?
So far, the many funny moments that I have been able to experience together with my colleagues have been my highlight.
Has there already been a highlight Philomena (KV)?
My highlight was also the apprentice camp at the beginning. It was a great start to my apprenticeship, and I was able to get to know my fellow apprentices really well.
Alina (laboratory technician), has there been a special challenge that you have mastered so far?
One challenge I overcame was extruding alone for the first time. There are many work steps to consider at the same time, where mistakes could easily happen.
What was your biggest challenge Stefan (production mechanic)?
My first shooting assignment according to plan. I was allowed to make a special screw for the extruder, which was very exciting and instructive.
How do you experience IGP as an employer Stanislav (plant operator)?
Very positive. I appreciate the corporate culture and the cohesion that is lived out. I am grateful that I was given the chance to start my apprenticeship here.
And how do you perceive her, Enea (logistician)?
I experience IGP as a modern, progressive employer. I get along well with the employees and can have a lot of fun.
Roian (laboratory technician), which of your skills have you been able to improve since the beginning of your training?
Above all, I was able to improve my time management and planning. This was a big challenge for me at the beginning, but now it works really well.
Tymo (plant operator), what have you already improved?
Since the beginning of the training, I have improved my punctuality, my motivation, my accuracy and my independence.
And what about you, Donisa?
Above all, I have improved my organizational skills. Processing sample orders, approving reservations, and writing emails helped me to work in a more structured and accurate way. My communication skills have also evolved, as I regularly communicate with employees and sometimes with external partners via email.
