Powder coatings of the future – Savvas Legidis in conversation with «Farbe und Lack»

In a recent interview with trade magazine «Farbe und Lack», Savvas Legidis, Chief Technology Officer at IGP Powder Coatings, discusses the major issues currently shaping powder coating technology. He describes how industry requirements are changing and how IGP is responding to these developments with targeted innovation programs.

Legidis makes it clear that powder coatings are much more versatile today than they were just a few years ago. New formulations, improved weather resistance, and specialized systems are constantly opening up new applications—from sophisticated architectural surfaces to design-oriented furniture components.

An important driver here is technological advancement: more precise formulations, improved raw materials, and optimized production processes lead to more robust, efficient, and aesthetically versatile products.

In the interview, Savvas Legidis also emphasizes the role of sustainability. Powder coatings already score highly thanks to their solvent-free systems, but IGP goes even further—for example, with energy-efficient curing processes, recyclable materials, and coatings with a long service life. Legidis sees great potential for the future in combining functional properties with sustainable design.
